My 2001 c220d was taking ages to heat up the cabin so got my local garage to install a thermostat. Now the ****** thing wont start.
If you spray a bit on easy start in it it will fire and run no probs but leave it for a while and it wont start again any idea’s

Sounds to me like they have disturbed a fuel line O ring. You need to move the pipes a bit to change the thermostat. Probably pushed a hard old O ring over the edge

Smart + others :)
They have either cracked or disturbed one of the fuel pipes, which if the seals have hardened will be letting in air.

TO change the thermostat you will need to remove the low pressure plastic fuel pipes that go from the low pressure to the high pressure pump. These have o rings on them. If they become damaged then it won't be air tight, meaning diesel will run back to the tank. The other common thing is the a T pipe that always goes brittle and can crack at the junction of the pipe allowing the same thing to happen.

You can easily recover the pipe connectors and replace the fuel pipes with black nitrile pipes and screwdown pipe clips. I did that twice in successive C Classes with complete success. The total cost was about £8.00 for each car. The T junction to the black thingy can be eliminated as it has no particular function. Mercedes told me it was a test point which they almost never use. I never missed it.
