Hey Guys,

I got all brand new engine mounts and gearbox mount from my dealer. I was reading over WIS document explaining the whole procedure of what needs to be taken out etc. It looks like there is a lot to do it. You have to unbolt alternator and also A/C compressor and also document is saying about taking out the whole DPF o_O, you do not have to take them out but I was wondering if somebody done this job on this engine and if they can share some info with me if there are any shortcuts.

I was trying to find some online DIY if somebody done this kind of job on OM651 but it seems there is nothing out there. There are toturials for M271, M274, M272, OM642 but nothing relating OM651.

Currently I have about 120 000 miles on it. I can actually feel it that it is more shaky as it was. Sometimes after harder acceleration engine can go into vibrations, it happens few times. Last service on the car was at the end of October this year - since then I drove around 5000/6000 miles up till now. I got a software update is well for my engine. I came back to the dealer regarding this issue and they have told that everything else is fine and I need engine mounts replacement. I thought it might be injector etc. but I did not want to believe as car mileage is not that huge for a failed injector. They have check this for me is well and assure me that everything is fine. Service guy told me that he has seen this issues before and these are engine mounts. We will see.

OP has WIS (Mercedes workshop service manual). He wants to know if it's possible to replace them without removing all the parts listed in WIS.

I just thought that Haynes may suggest a different approach , just as the WIS recommends on the om642 removal of ancillaries , but YouTube’ers have found it’s possible without doing that .

Most 642's just need the middle section of the downpipe removed, then there is enough space. Passeneger side is easy peasy!

To the op, the only way to know if there is a quicker way is to try it!

It looks like I will have to do it. Looking at it from the engine bay I do not really understand why they are saying that we need to remove the whole DPF and also unbolt the alternator and A/C Compressor - it looks like there is enough room to do this without removing them. I will find out tomorrow and surely I will post some quick DIY regarding this as there is nothing there about this engine.

Remember the new mounts will be taller than the old mounts and that you need space to get them out

I am taking this to consideration and hopefully they are not that badly worn out. I will have a bigger job after new year replacing mounts on M275 which finally was curred of missfires.

Hey Guys,

I have completed the replacement of the Engine Mounts on OM651 on W204. To be honest with you I do not understand why WIS is saying to unbolt alternator and A/C compressor. The right engine mount from the driver side is a little bit harder as we need to take out Air Filter Box and the upper catalyst that is connected to the turbo but it is dead easy. Then we can take out the engine mount without any issue. The left side is just taking out screws and taking out the mount.

Thank you all for help.

I had to change my om642 W211 mounts. It was done by lowering the subframe on a ramp, much easier. Unfortunatly I used Corteco mounts bought on Ebay. Either they're poor quality or fake because they don't seem to isolate very well.

I bought engine mounts at my dealer. At the end they will last good few years so it is really worth spending a bit extra money. I know from a lot of people that they had a lot of issues with their aftermarket engine mounts. MB ones are filled with oil is well so this is making a huge difference.

I agree. Only use MB mounts. All the others are noticeably inferior.

Lemforder are good - from what I know they also use Hydro-Bearings. There is a lot of them sold as fake so becarefull. I would go with MB mounts.

Any experience of Lemforder, are they not any good?

Lemforder are OK, but still not as good as MB oem.

Corteco are crap.

Febi are an importer/rebrander and don't actually make anything directly so bit of a gamble.
