I bought a 2007 c280 w204 today and everything was fine when I picked it up and it drove 100 miles peacefully.

Then it started to turn on ESP, RUN FLAT lights and didn't respond to kick-down (i.e. limp). Stopping at the side of the road and turning off / on solved it for a few miles. It tended to happen when pulling slight right to move out to overtake.

That fault seems to have gone.

During one occurrence the engine warning light came on and it has stayed on ever since.

It also warns about a front right parking light not working and only the high note of the dual horns is sounding. Also the windscreen washers don't work.

I'm thinking this must be all one common cause but appealing on here for any answers in case it is a common fault.

Get the battery on charge. Low voltage causes lots of spurious problems on Mercedes that are resolved with a fully charged battery.
It should read 12.6v fully charged. If its the original battery (month and year should be stamped on the terminal) you most likely need a new battery.

I've driven it 250 miles and it started fine when I first got into it. It also drove fine for the first 100 miles.

The engine light turned off by itself overnight. I'll drive it a bit more and see if it keeps coming back on.

I guess if any light is going to go off by itself you'd not really expect to have to wait more than a couple of days. If it's staying on all the time then your repair of the power steering probably wasn't completed right.

Not sure if it applies to this car but I know on some cars if you spin the steering wheel while it is disconnected from the steering rack it will break the sensor in the steering column. Ask me how I know! Those sensors only accept a certain number of turns in either direction before the tape breaks off inside the sensor and it's knackered.
