I've just bought my first ever Mercedes - a 2012 C220 AMG sport coupe. It's done 108k miles, but is mostly in very good condition. Cheap enough, and I knew I'd have to spend a few quid bring it up to scratch. Both bumpers need paint, wheels need a refurb, and I've just spent £175 to get a second key made.

A couple of interior issues though:

The black rubberised coating on a few of the steering wheel buttons (12 button wheel) is flaking off, showing the white plastic underneath. The rest of the switches in the car are fine, so I guess it was caused by hand lotion or something?
The previous owner put some vinyl stickers over the buttons, but they were peeling off and looked awful.
I've ordered a set of "chromed" plastic switch covers from eBay to see if they will sort out the problem. Anybody fitted these?

If they don't fit properly, I'll have to replace both switch modules. Chinese knockoffs are about £80 a set on eBay. Are these any good? They look relatively straightforward to fit - once the airbag has been removed.

Second problem is the black power button for the audio/central display is missing. The chromed volume knob is still there, just the black central part missing. It can still be switched off by poking a finger in the hole.
Is there a source for this part? All I can find is a complete head unit secondhand, for £100+

You can buy complete steering wheels from eBay for around £100. These will come with all the switches. For instance :

Just take a very good look at the eBay listing to make sure the bits you want are in tip top condition. Then transfer the good bits from your 'new' wheel to the current one.

I did think of getting a secondhand steering wheel, but the peeling buttons seems to be a very common problem

All the genuine secondhand switch units that I've seen for sale are showing signs of peeling. Nowhere near as bad as the units on my car though. 2 of the right hand buttons are completely white.

I'm wondering if the Chinese copies fit and work properly?

tbf, No point wasting money on a used one that has same issues you want to avoid.

In terms of functianality. They are a switch and at the price worth a punt surely.

are the switches not available from MB.

I would imagine they would be expensive from Mercedes, but I haven't checked. The only Mercedes dealer in my area is about 75 minutes away, a couple of independent specialists are closer

When I had BMWs, there were a few dealers that advertised parts online, at a reasonable discount. Same for Kia and Skoda. Sometimes the prices weren't that much higher than reproduction parts.

Are there any online sources for genuine Mercedes parts?
