Hi All,
New to the forum so Hello.
Finding my way around so apologies if the question is in the wrong place.
My W205 C220D is ready for a battery, which will require registration. The dealer wants silly money so was thinking of going the DIY route. I purchased the Icarsoft MB v2.0 being hopeful that this offered the battery registration function (as listed) but sadly it doesn't seem to.
Has anyone managed to register a battery on this chassis and if so what tool did you use? I don't want to spend Star money as the vehicle is on extended warranty and most work is covered.

Thanks in advance.

No idea what you mean by battery registration. You can buy a battery and replace it.

Ahhh OK thanks. Never knew it was knee deep.

To the OP perhaps you can contact icarsoft and ask them if the function is listed for the device?

I was told some time ago that the need to register a new battery to a Mercedes car varies between models, it is popular opinion that it applies to all cars fitted with Stop/Start but I haven't found any evidence to support that on my W204 Chassis, I also have the same code reader as the OP and found nothing there either but I did find a doc this morning, copy herewith with two pertinent snips identifying the qualifying model No's and instructions at line 13, to confirm Battery change in Front SAM CU in the actuations menu.
So it would appear the OP does need to find either a friendly MB Indy close to him or a more capable scanner! I found some time ago that the EBS (Electronic Battery Sensor) now provides the information required for the charging algorithms to match the age of the battery, but just how many models that applies to I don't know?
While writing, I haven't actually tried to find a Front Sam Actuations Menu so if I find anything I'll report back.

Hmmmm sounds like the apple battery scandal of a few years ago.

Well I have every confidence that Bosch are most trustworthy as a supplier to MB, are you suggesting that Mercedes Benz aren't using the information it was intended to be used for and are manipulating the data to their financial advantage? Or is it just coincidental the 205, 213 and 253 all hit the salerooms within a Year or two of each other? It would be interesting to see how many of these owners are having to change batteries?

All he needs is someone with Star.
Where are you based? Someone may volunteer.

Talk to UK Parts Direct who supply iCarsoft readers about which unit will register your battery. I’ve just done this and bought an iCarsoft CR PRO unit so that I can register a new battery on my BMW amongst other things and they were very helpful.
This is what I bought although buy it direct from them it’s cheaper

Oh, and yes a lot of newer cars now have a Battery Management System (BMS) and any replacement battery does have to be registered to the on-board computer due to smart alternators adjusting levels of charge

Thank you for all the responses. I'm based in Sheffield.
I am in communication with icarsoft as I get a link error when trying to connect to the BMS.
Not sure if I will get an answer but in all fairness they are very responsive.

You will probably get better support from the UK agents you bought it from, all the official agents have helplines.

It's this sort of thing that puts me off buying the new Jag l fancied. Tell the module you've fitted a new battery? If the module really was that smart then surely it would be able to detect a new battery all by itself? Don't think l could live like that, I'm very used to doing battery changes, charging and service replacements myself without too much specialist equipment and / or a trip to the dealer. And this is progress??????

Exactly right, another clear example, as if it were needed for another revenue generating opportunity for MB when clearly and in earlier models the EBS constantly updates the network with the information required.
