hi there just took ownership of a lovely 2001 CLK 320 convertible as follows

  1. silver, black interior
  2. 81K, Mercedes service book till 72K
  3. MOT till Jan 2022
  4. drivers memory seat, passenger half electric
  5. 17inch Mirzam alloys, (i think)
  6. Nokia Phone cradle
there is an issue with the roof as follows, hoping for some guidance

  1. Parkup, and turn roof handle above head, all windows drop as normal
  2. Select roof down switch and sometimes the rear headrests drop to the park position, sometimes they don't
  3. roof looks like its trying to park away, moves about 1-2 inches, however rear section does not move, red light then flashes, and nothing
  4. select roof up, nothing, so have to manually pull roof to a posts again about 5 inches, and lock as per normal
  5. red light on roof switch now flashes, and cannot open boot
i know itll most likely need plugging into STAR, however does anything stick out beforehand, also is there an alternative to start, similar to icarsoft that would identify or reset the issue

thanks in advance

Hi, nice choice of a car.

Have you reset all the windows and rear headrests ??

Is the hydraulic oil level for the roof correct.

I would leave the headrests down until you get the roof sorted, one less item to complicate the roof sequence.

As for diagnostics, I think that your car will have a 38 pin plug in the engine bay and not obd.

When releasing the handle above the windscreen, it is a good idea to push the roof up to begin the process of it retracting. Doing this takes the strain off the cables used to lift it initially.

Hope that you get it all sorted for those sunny days.

Hi only had the car 48 hours .

What's the reset process for the windows and headrests.

The roof when you open from above your head does lift up slightly on its own.

Good shout on the fluid level, will check tomorrow.

The car itself looks like it's had a good life, I'm the 3rd owner, and the past 10 years according to the MOT history has only done 20k miles.

TIA

My first MB was a 2001 CLK200K Coupe a great car, it had 120K miles on the clock when I sold it. Almost nothing went wrong with it.
There is plenty of advice on this site for your issues.

hi, all

was hoovering out the back behind the front seats today and found a small part under the seat, part number on the back is A 208 695 00 30. this cross references in google as something to do with the roof. ebay link below best explains it

1999-2003 CLK Convertible Mercedes-Benz Cover A 208 695 00 30 | eBay

so, does anyone know what this does, and more importantly where does it live?

regards
