Please could anyone tell me how to remove the rear view mirror from a 1998 W208 coupe. I've had a look through old threads and seen it talked about but not explained. I want to fit an auto-dimming mirror from a W210.

Many thanks

Hi,
You just need to give it a sharp pull down and towards the rear of the car, you will also need to remove the overhead light console to plug the dimming mirror in.

The idea being that should your head hit it, then it just pops off, the mirror that is:rolleyes:

Not being too cheeky, I hope, but is it pretty straight forward to remove the light unit?

By way of feedback, this turned out to be an easy modification and I'd recommend it to anyone whose thinking about doing it - I'm no mechanic but it was not a problem at all. The wiring for the ambient lighting/self dimming mirror was already in the lighting unit so it was just plug and play. Hardest bit was getting the mirror back on: There are two spring loaded pins that hold the mirror in place - you really have to push it hard to get it back on. Thanks to Andy and Malcolm for their help.

Hi,
Glad you got it sorted, interested to hear that the ambient light worked, as I have been meaning to replace my dimming mirror with one thats got the ambient light option fitted, any chance of a pic showing the ambient light?
