Changed filter And oil , oil coming out was a brown colour filter looked stinking no leaks , would the oil go this colour over time or is it a sign of things to come ? Cars driving fine again at the moment but not been on a long run yet .

Done about 10 miles in it now and all seems ok perhaps a longer run is needed or would it mess up straight away if there was a fault ?

The car seems fine now any ideas about the brown colour oil ? Would it just go this colour over time ?

Over heating the box can cause the fluid to burn and change colour, the big problem was just that the fluid never got changed, pleased its all fine now

Lost drive again this morning then it came back , I've looked at oil and it's a brown colour again have I put enough oil in 3 and a half litres ? In the gearbox ? Car was driving much smoother but has now developed a kick when changing gear now all the time but now and then is my box on it's way out ?

Does the box have the correct level of fluid in it

I've just checked with mercedes and they say it takes about 7 and a half litres if I drain torque converter but I did not drain that just the sump and change filter , but they also said that it holds about 5 in sump so I've just added another 1 and a half litres and I'll see how it goes , is there a way I can drain torque converter otherwise and put fresh oil in again totally ?

I've made a dipstick from curtain wire but how do I know how high up the stick it should be ?

7cm with the engine at 80c or more and after moving the selector through the gate a few times and test in P with engine running

Ok I've done that and oil is at the right level , but it's gone that dirty brown colour again ? Is this because I've not drained the torque converter ? Also there seems to be small little grains of dirt in it ? Any help would be appreciated .

Is it worth dropping the oil again and putting fresh in again ? Or am I wasting my time ?

Yes and oils brown again do you think dropping the oil again would work ? Or is there a bigger problem ?

I do not think that it would help unless a valve is stuck or leaking in the valve block, it has to be something like this or it would not go at all. Maybe if the valve block was dropped and washed out, but I do no know :(

The new fluid soon looks brownish

It seems to be in the first gears as I pull of it changes gear eratically and then when I stop it like kicks from back end , but it has lost drive altogether then came back it's doing my head in now .
