I had one once where the car would just loose drive when hot,,, when cooled down all fine,,, it was bits off alli in the the valve block, where the casing was crumbling, I do not think that MB boxes have ever suffered from this, but all it takes is a stuck open valve and you have no drive, it cannot be much more serious or it would not drive at all

How easy is it to take the valve block out and clean it ? I'm also wondering if if I have used the correct oil as I spoke to mercedes and they said 80/90 but I did not put that in from euro arts I used another oil perhaps I should drop oil again and change to the other one ?

It is not oil, its fluid that meets the spec 236.14 What did you put in ???

The valve block just unbolts when the sump is off complete with the speed plate

It would have been nice with some input from a techie on this, it would certainly do no harm to clean it

Ok so is there anything I need to know when removing it ? Nothing going to fall off or anything ? I don't want to break it so it won't work again but if it's just a case of taking of and cleaning I can do that

What I've noticed is the problem only happens in 1st and 2nd gears when it's upto 3rd ,4th it's perfect any ideas ? Perhaps a particular valve block ?

Ok.......
Removing the valve block and cleaning it will not help you. It would need to be stripped and cleaned, then rebuilt.
I would not advise you to do this!
Whoever at mb told you to replace the sump fluid with over five litres wants a rollicking! Cole told you it was 3.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whining noise occur when the primary pump is being starved of oil. This can be because...
A. The fluid is low
B. debris from something breaking up inside the transmission is blocking the filter and starving the primary pump of oil.
From what you have posted so far I THINK you have an internal issue that cannot be resolved by a DIY mechanic.
It's best you take it to somebody competent who can tell you what's going on

I'm a techie and that's my advice :D

Ok thanks for that but 5 litres is bang on the mark when running at 80 degrees I've made a dipstick and it's spot on .
