Hi All

My first post as a new Mercedes owner! I have just taken delivery of a beautiful 2004 CLK270cdi Avantgarde. I've only had her a few days but I'm smitten already!

Just 2 small issues:

1. Mirror repeaters are misted - I have had a look around and a good search but can't find how to un-clip the mirror shrouds so I can dry them out/reseal. There doesn't appear to be anywhere obvious to poke a screwdriver etc in. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

2. One of my reversing sensors is pushed in and loose on the rear bumper. Again, I have had a search but can't seem to find anything. Is it easy to get at to refix? I'm not sure I'm up to removing the whole bumper.

Thanks in advance.

The strip on the bumper comes on so that you can put the parking sensor back.

The cover on the mirror also slides off

Welcome to the forum

If you would like them I may have a paper on doing both jobs

If you could dig them out that would be very kind.

You need to remove the glass first and there is a screw holding the indicator in behind the glass.

There are two ways to remove the glass, before 29/3/04, the retaining clip is behind the mirror on the outside edge. (edge furthest from car)
After that date, there is a spring clip behind the mirror on the top edge.

Malcolm

I tried to PM you with my email address but your PM quota has been exceeded!

My email is in my profile (if that can be seen). If not, I will try again later/tomorrow.

I have sent some papers 4 or 5 I think

The rear bumper has to come off to get to the sensors

Malcolm

Thanks for the papers - it's really appreciated. Funnily I have had a look and my car, although a 54 plate, appears to have the earlier mirrors with the clip rather than the screws. I'll have a better look at the weekend if the weathers better.

The build date will determine which, not the registration.

Malcolm - You did indeed send all the relevant docs, which is why I also know it seems to be the ealrier version.

Russ - Thanks for that - it makes sense when it's written out.

One last question - do they still make the old style repeaters or, if I decide to put new ones on, will I have to change the mirror housing too? Unlikely if that's the case!

Ok, I'm an idiot!

I have just been out to have a go at changing the mirror repeaters. Looking at the remove/install mirror lens sheet from Malcolm, I have unhooked the retaining spring (which promptly fell behind the lens) but the mirror still seems locked in place. I have spent 30mins trying to work out how the mirror is kept in place but can't see anything obvious.

Can anyone give me pointers on how the mirror unhooks from the backplate?

Thanks

Dave

The glass has two hook that slot into the motor base, and you lift the glass up and out

Is it under any tension because I have tried pushing, pulling, lifting up, pressing down and nothing seems to give?

On the glass paper is says unlock the center point 3 it is a lug as it tells you to insert it when re fitting

Phew!

Finally managed it - I think I was being a bit of a wuss, scared of breaking the mirror. Once the first one was done the second was easy. I think my problem is I don't like fiddly things, I like a lot of room to work in and this isn't one of those times.

Thanks Malcolm for all your help and instruction sheets - invaluable.
