I have been using this key without problem. Then batteries went. Changed them. Key will now open the doors, boot, etc. But it will not turn in the ignition.

I have the three button key fob with the key that slides out from the end.

Can it be just coincidence that the key goes at the same time I change the batteries having worked fine before hand.

A friend said (I have yet to check) that these keys are circa £500 to replace.
Before I take out a second mortgage can anybody offer any help and guidance.

Thanks

The transponder coil has broken,,you could transfer one from a key on Ebay or buy a new key from MB for £210.

I no longer offer this repair service

THanks for that

Thanks fo your reply - much appreciated.

Sounds dodgy buying an old key on Ebay!

Are there no financial inducements to encourage you to take up this repair?

I have a mate who is seriously into electronics can you offer me any guidance that I could pass on to him so he could do this for me perhaps?

Cheers

That is no problem to pass on the info and anyone good with electronic could transfer the coil,,

First open up your old key and with a thin flat knife release the catch on the white nylon strip and pull the PCB out.

I use an old bone handled knife with the last 2mm of the end bent at 45º slide it in and along and it all pulls out. you need to make sue that the coil in the picture is still attached to the PCB

you need a good 2 or 3 button key from Ebay, not the old long ones.

Thanks again

The original coil snaps off just leaving the end soldered on the pcb. the new one need something like hot melt glue to hold it,, not on the top side or the pcb will not go back into the case,,instant glue would do it ok under the coil
