Hi

I have a customers w210 300 diesel in for some work, These are the problems Im having with it.
On cold or warm start the car drives well but it feels sluggish, after a few miles if I accelerate hard from stand still the car hangs in 2nd gear and wont change to 3rd.
The engine then struggles and the mph drops and the car wont accelerate, road speed as low as 15mph and no throttle response.
whilst the engine revs are highish there is plently of white blueish smoke but this isnt apparent on a first start only when the performace drops off.
Performance or problems with the car are the same with the MAF connected or disconnected.
With the bonnet open and ticking over there is an occasional crack but not all the time, Ive listened to the injectors with a screw driver and some sound slightly different to others.
There is a constant stream of air bubbles in the fuel lines with the engine running but no problems starting the car.
Ive run diags and the every system on the car had faults !!!!!! Ive cleared all the fault codes but some remain and I cant clear them, EGS gearbox and Aircon but these are not related.

My thoughts are possibly the injectors are failing or the seals are leaking but there is no black death on top of the engine etc so seals poss not a problem.

Any help please!!!!

Firstly, replace all the o-rings on the fuel lines around the injector pump, and also replace the big o-ring on the fuel prefilter (new prefilter does not come with o-ring). Also change the o-ring on the fuel shutoff valve, its the small black plastic thing on the side of the pump, 3 lines going to it. 2 bolts hold it on.

While you're at it, check the fuel prefilter for gungy muck, and I presume you've also changed the main filter.

The diesel spill pipe will want changing if its never been done before, you need 1.1 metres and they only sell in metre lengths :(

Is it a turbo model? The EGR on these can get extremely gungy and starve the engine of air, although I've only seen it really bad on the US forums, they must have rubbish diesel over there.

I was thinking about changing all the O rings on the fuel system and cleaning the prefilter, what I dont what to do is add costs to the job if the injectors are had it, as the customer said the he will scrap it if it going to cost too much to fix it.

Turbo spins up ok but car feels restricted. EGR was something to look at, I assume its the device sitting under the inlet with the vacume on the side covered in think black oil.

Will report back.

Thats the one. The o-rings and filter cost pence.

You could always buy new springs nozzles and washers for the injectors, would be much cheaper.

Had to service a W203 270 this morning so this afternoon put some time on the W210, I removed the pre filter and it was think with black crud, Ive managed to get it clean and replaced the larger O ring and the bubbles have gone, engine sounds much better, will road test later and see what shes like.

Might be worth investigating having the fuel tank cleaned, perhaps its full of algae.

Nice car though wouldnt mind talking the wife into selling the A160 and having the 300E instead. And its not that rusty either!!!!!!!!
