w210 96 e230 air con problem

Hi all,

As the pround owner of the worst w210 on this site i present my latest problem which i hope to attack tomorrow.

Last week i went to get the air con recharged. 130 euro later i had air con. However, the cooling fan on the front of the car for the conditioning doesnt come on so i cant run the system in heavy traffic. I want to find out what fuse might control that before i go to an auto electrition.

Another thing. the refridgerent only lasted in the system for two days due to a leak. It came out of the car at the front somewhere near where that fan is. The air con guy did a vacum test and said there was a leak in it but it might not be that serious, I guess he was wrong!

Sounds like the condenser has rotted.

Condensor is leaking thats the rad at the front behind the fan, all faults related until the new condensor is fitted.

Thanks guys. The air con guy told me that they are about 300 euro. I am having difficulty in finding one that expensive. I wonder could i get away with ordering one from an online merchant and fitting it myself...or is that one of those things that best left to someone without a hammer in their hand like me?!!!

get a price off mercedes you might be suprised, easy enough but theres a lot to take apart and if not confident with your hammer then poss best left to someone that knows how to use a spanner.

I think you're right there jibcl500, Between the condenser and the fact that neither of the fans are working it might be best to let the stealer just get it sorted. If i sort it myself i could be talking to auto electricians, refrigeration filler guys aswell as the hassle of going at it myself with my trusty lump hammer.
