I have w210 -98 Mercedes e-class car which has this really annoying problem with door locks and interior front light.
Intermittently central locking stop working remotely from the key. Key is sending signal but the doors won't lock or unlock. When I open the driver door manually also the interior light is out. It won't light up. Central lock works when I press the button on the dashboard but not from the key.
I can fix this by detaching the battary calbe for few seconds and reattaching it but the same problem will come back in few days.

How are the central locking(or more precisely the central lock signal receivers on the doors) and interior lights related? Local car repair shop suggested the I should change the interior light unit (208820) but how would that help with the locks? Or is this just guessing?
Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

When was the last time you put new batteries in the key?
If the answer is 'not recently', try new key batteries first and report back.

hi, members on here like malcolm, ( television, user name), are best to give you some guidance on this kind of problem. I have a 1997 w210 and have always done my own repairs, the electrical / electronics are the real challenge as the car has so many interelated electronic components, great when they are working, but difficult to trace malfunctions.
The cars are worth it IMHO and it will be interesting to see what is causing your problem. ?
Could be the remote fob receiver / door switch solenoid is starting to fail or one of the switching relays. ? like you i cannot see how the interior courtesy light should affect it. ? good luck. herbiemercman.

It needs a bit of research on this,,, the OCP could be part of the locking, I will try and post back on it,,, have you checked all fuses.

This is my next project as the central locking is dead on mine, turning indicators will flash for lock and unlock but doors have no locking action PSE dead, motor does not run its supply fuse is fine.
Vacuum lines checked and all doors will lock and unlock with manual pressure and vacuum applied.

The PSE module certainly does affect/ control interior lighting as the larger plug on the right side of PSE pump when disconnected kills the interior lights

Any circuit info or check procedures would be most helpful if anyone can share some knowledge

Cheers all John:)

Do check fuse 4 in the rear fuse box rated at 25 amps, it drives the OCP also fuse 5 25 amp
