Hi
I have a 1999 E320TD W210 AUTO, gears stick - usually when I come to a junction it does not shift to 1st but stays in second, some times it will not select reverse and other times will stick in 3rd. Switching off the ignition and re-starting cures the problem but it seems to be getting more frequent. Once stuck in gear manually trying to make it change gears does not work.
Any ideas, my local garage has no idea what is causing the problem as as it is an intermittent problem, he has not been able to experience the problem and so try and diagnose the problem.
Thanks

One thing that I would do is to clean the contacts of the plug that goes into the gearbox ECU,,,do use a non drying switch cleaner,,The fault will be more the ECU or selector side, rather than the box

Cheapest answer is to replace gearbox filter and the 3 litres of oil that come out when pan off, mine was blocked and a new filter has sorted it weel at least temporarily.
Blocked filter means not enough oil pressure to allow the box to change gears.
