The warning lights for BAS / ESP/ ABS came up on my dash twice in one day, since re-starting they have stayed off. Everything seems okay, but have booked into my indy to have it checked over, anyone had this before and what is the probable cause - hope it's not bad news.

Thanks as always

Sounds like another brake light switch problem.

Thanks for quick reply, the brake lights are working, but this problem is intermitant, what actually goes wrong with the switch?

I have had a look in the archives and see that the brake light switch seems to be a common problem, when my indy puts the car on the tester will it show up that the brake light switch is at fault (if that is the case)

Yes. It stores fault codes easily. The beake lights often still work even if the switch is faulty.

Its the pressure sensor for the BAS that fails , not the brake light part

Sounds like another brake light switch problem.

Have you by any chance got the part number?

Another question, if I fit the part myself do I still have to have the car put on a tester to have the faults cleared off the system?

Its very easy to fit and no fault codes to clear, should take less than ½ hour

Just walked down to my local MB dealer (one of the good things about working in Slough) and purchased a switch - interesting thing was when I asked if they sold many was the parts person said "oh yes we sell loads of those"

Anyway will fit tonight and hopefully that will be the end of that

I had the same problem on my c230k, new switch did cure it, being inquisitive i took the old switch apart and found burnt contacts on the brake light switch part of the switch, i'm guessing that the switch fails to bring the lights on every now and then so you wouldn't notice them not working, mine used to bring the warning lamp on in traffic when the brakes are being used alot. One small point when fitting the switch, it has a self adjusting plunger which should be pulled out as far as it will go befor fitting this will then ratchet up to the correct place when the pedal is released.

Hi Glen, there should be a pressure sensor in it, this is the bit that fails

Fitted last night, took 20 minutes and all seems okay, I wonder what MB would charge to do the job?

Anyway thanks to all for advise
