My 1993 220 TE is getting a bit long in the tooth now 200k and will need some wings and touching up and I see that you can get a W210 for about 2 and a half grand I know that some are likely to be rustier than my 124 but
What are my chances of Finding a Good one and what is a good engine option
I've heard tales of problematic glowplugs on the diesels costing a few grand to put right obviously I'll be looking for a merc service historied car.

all good really. The 240 is a bit underpowered. Good cruiser but lacking a bit of grunt and no more economical than the 280 so no benefit really. Nice and smooth though.

jberks is right about the E240 bit of a barge but a real nice cruiser. On a run does about 35 MPG - keeping a 'light right' of course.:D:D

for £2500, at the moment you can get an E320CDI, the price of these cars has halved in the past 12 months. I bought mine 18 months ago, and have covered 40k miles, It had 105k miles on the clock when I bought it.

It has been serviced twice - at a cost of £550, the springs were changed at a cost of £300, the glow plugs were changed at a cost of £200, I have bought 6 tyres £370. The fan belt broke and went through the power steering hose £120, the front pads and disks were changed at a cost of £270.

The car has averaged 34.7mpg - I don't drive slowly, however, I am by no means a boy racer either - I drive quite alot of motorway miles (I think that this is pretty good for an estate)

This car is proving to be quite economical to run - OK so I have lost £3000 in depreciation.... compared to a new car this is really quite little.

With £2500, you should be able to find a 2000 / 01 saloon with less than 120k miles. Alternatively look for a 150k miles car which has had the glow plugs, springs and injectors replaced already - these engines go on for 300k miles with no problem
