W210 E 300 TD ATF Fluid level

Have checked my Merc manual and there is no reference to ATF checks (says has to be done by the dealers) is this right, or is it easily done?

I presume that the dip stick type pipe to the left of the engine with the black top & red clip is for the ATF.

Just to be sure

Read the DIY article from Parrott of Doom, FANTASTIC!!!!! but, am I right in saying that the filler IS the one with the black oval-ish top with the little red clip/insert, to the left of the engine when looking from the front of the car.
