Hi, my first post, so please be kind. I've recently bought the above car and have been very pleased with it. Recently i've noticed a strong smell of diesel, and after removing the engine cover and checking, saw diesel squirting from the front of the engine (see images attached). Can anyone tell me what component it is squirting from, and how easy/expensive it is to fix? Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,

Welcome to the forum.

It is the high pressure fuel pump, a new set of seals may cure and cost pence.

Please get it repaired quickly, wet roads + diesel = lethal for other road users.

pump

i have taken the high pressure pump off my 320 today because its leaking. i have bought a second hand pump with waranty ( from dronsfields) which will go straight on. i am going to reseal the leaking pump with a seal kit from diesel bobs. i havent ordered the kit yet as there has not been any post where i live in 3 weeks and i dont think we will get any this week . so as soon as the post is getting through i will get the kit and re do my pump with a few pics to post on here. the kit will cost £35 all in. i think you will need a new belt as this will be contaminated aswell, also check the coolent hoses if its been leaking on and off like mine . ps dont forget to check the rad aswell as mine is clogged with diesel soaked crud ( it has been leaking when cold for over a year now). cheers simon

Many thanks to everybody for the information. I've taken my car to the local independent mercedes specialist and they are fitting a new pump, they've confirmed that the rest of the car looks tidy for the mileage so fingers crossed that this is not a warning of things to come!
