Can I just confirm exactly how the adjustment for the headlamps works? I mean the little knob near the lightswitch that you turn 0-1-2-3 for heavy loads in the back seats or boot?

I can't actually see the headlamps moving when the knob is turned, so I'm guessing they're not working (I can't hear anything either). I can't actually see an entry for this control in the fusebox leaflet either.

Hi

Think it works on vacumn as opposed to electric hence no fuse.

Hmm, if thats the case does anyone know where I should be looking? Perhaps a pipe has come loose.

BTW, is the central locking vacuum operated as well?

The pipe (if fitted) is usually below the headlight. Sorry, but my only experience is with a W124 where the only way to get to the pipe is to take the headlight unit out.

BTW - yes, the central locking is vacuum operated and the unit is under the rear righthand side (driver's in Blighty) passenger seat.

PS - Why have I got headlamp adjusters and self-levelling supension on both cars????????

A word of caution - as I understand it, a leak on the vacuum system can cause no end of problems, especially on a diesel, from locking to the engine not shutting off so be careful when mucking about with the pipes.
Headlights aren't the most accessible items. I remember watching the dealer change one on my 210 once. It took him over an hour, he had to strip the bumper and all sorts. May not be worth the effort - I can't remember an occasion I have ever used the adjuster anyway.
