Evening folks,

I'm after some advice really, as i don't know a great deal about the Mercedes marque.

A relative of mine is wanting to get rid of there W210 E300 TD Estate (i had to google the W210 bit!), they are downsizing into something Fiesta sized & have been offered a nominal figure for the car which i think is far too low. They have offered it to me, but i'm not sure what its worth & was hoping someone could give me some advice.

The details are as follows:-

1997 R reg
E300 TD Estate in Elegance spec
They have ownd it from brand new
78000 miles
Service history by Mercedes & then a specialist
Good condition, no rust i can see, but i'm not 100% sure where to look properly.
Leather seats, aircon etc..
Once small dent on the rear quarter panel, this hasn't broken the paint.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks,

Mick

Hi Mick and welcome.

This sounds like a very good car,, re any rust look behind the rubbers around the door, and other you would see around the wheel arches. the best thing about this model is it will run on veg oil.

You will get more answers later

As Malc says, open the doors and lift the rubber on the top of the window frame. Other places include the front upper spring cups, which rust badly, and the lower face of the front subframe cross member. Neither of these places are easy to see without getting the car on a lift. Perhaps a professional inspection may help if you are worried. Also look out for glowplug warning light staying on after engine starts. Glowplugs are often hard/impossible to remove...

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=47832 HI,Pant wizard click on my url posting 47832 here. if you can buy the car for circa £2,500 then you must have a bargain, if you have to spend another £1,000 on repairs it is still worth it if you look at what you can buy for that kind of money. let us know how you get on ?herbiemercman.

Keep a cool head. These cars, like any other these days, are worth very little in the market - certainly compared with what you get for your money.

One owner car, serviced correctly from new and a low mileage for the diesel engine. Absolutely no reason why it should not be excellent - the sort of car that speacialist sites would queue up for - and charge a handsome premium on resale.

Having borne in mind the cautions of others, be sure not to let sentiment cloud the picture - offer the least they will sell for (the price they have been offered?).

Unless you are under 45 years old, it could last you a lifetime - even on chip fat!

I could not word that better Alex,,they are a very good car, and I know many that would not part with them.
They have waxoiled all of the doors and wheel arches and other components.
It is the car that any dealer would love to get their hands on
