My car is fitted with 235/45/17 Dunlop sp sport 2000e all round, but they now need replacing.

Has anyone got any recommendations on Goodyear etc?

Thanks.

Camskills is always worth a look, they usually beat everyone else's prices.

Depends on your budget, one respected poster here swears by Federals, and i can vouch for them on a BM 320 compact.
My son runs Avon ZZ3's on his Subaru and the grip is superb and the wear rate very good.

Going up in price do not ignore Vredestein, Dutch very high quality tyres.

Had a quick look, they have Toyo T1R's on special offer at £70.86 each, i have a set on the 124 coupe, very good tyre, but a lot of road noise, can't have it all i suppose.

do not ignore Vredestein,

I'll second both of them, my son also has the Avon ZZ3's and the Vredesteins have been coming first in a whole load of car mag tests over the last 4 or 5 years. The only thing you can rely on with the Michelins, they will be the dearest tyre you can buy.

Contemplating my next
I've just put Dunlop SP01s on mine [235/45 R17s] - £70+VAT each from Micheldever.

Had Conti Sport 2s on it before and the new ones are much quieter and so far the car feels sharper. Will have to monitor pressures as they are a bit unforgiving on the ride front.

Hello Shiny,, on the last big official test the Contis are the hardest ride, and that makes noise, you should find the Dunlops more economical as it takes energy to make noise

Depends if you want to spend the top money or cheap and cheerful? if you want cheaper option, go for something like Toyo Proxos or Falkens

if you want to pay the top money then go for Dunlop or michellin Pzero

I have Michelin Pilot Sport 2's on all my cars, I love them.

Another tyre worth considering is the Falken FK452, you can get them at very good prices and I personally prefer them to the GDS3, they are slightly softer but feel very similar, just a little more grippy at the expence of wear. But I am talking maybe 10% less wear and 30% cheaper so doesn't really matter.

I hate the Conti's, absolutely hate them, they are like driving on ice when it gets cold and damp.

The Contis still offer the best performance in the rain and elk test

Another really good tyre is the Khumo KU31 I think it is called.
Seriously impressive tyre, loads and loads of grip, comfy and quiet.

Not sure if they are as cheap as they once were though??

Yeah I know, problem with those tests though is they are always done on a track, and tracks tend to be nearly as good in the wet as they are in the dry, and the brake tests seem to suit a harder tyre, straight line braking on a smooth surface.

I had Conti sport contact 2's on our S4 avant and had to swap them as the front end would not grip at all when it was wet and below 5ºc and then on the M3 2 weeks ago when it got cold the back end kept kicking out and the traction light was going mad simply overtaking on the motorway! :(

PS2's went on the M3 on Thursday and it feels the same as it does in the summer.

It is the same with run flats, they always come out better than proper tyres in those same tests, but get onto a real road and they are bordering on lethal imho.

Hi

Vredestein Ultrac are just outstanding in the wet IMHO. If you are ever testing a tyres dry abilities you are going too fast!!!!

I had been using Conti PremiumContacts for the past few years on my 210 E300 TD Estate and was a big fan - by swapping the front set with the rear at about 16k I had managed 30k from each of the last two sets.

They are so expensive now, following recommendations on this forum I decided to try Vredestein Ultracs bought from Camskill for £313.20. Have had them on for one week now and am very impressed. Part of that may be because new tyres perform better than old ...
