Hello all,

I noticed some time ago that my W210 estate had no cover below the engine/crossmember. I think I posted here, regarding the problems encountered if it was missing IE corrosion.
The car was recently in the local garage for a noise from the front suspension, which turned out to be a lower ball joint (surprise, surprise).
Anyway when it was in I asked them to price me up the undertray, and they quoted me 60 quid and they could order it.
So today I phoned to book in for the ball joint to be fitted, and asked if the cover was in yet. They said they had re checked with Mercedes, quoting the VIN and that the cover was not applicable to my model.
It's a 2002 W210 Kompressor Estate, does anyone know if this is correct?
The crossmember is still in really good nick, and I recently waxed it all so hopefully it won't rot any time soon. I just thought it was strange, cos all the fittings are present on the subframe.

Regards,

Col

You might be better off spending £60 on Waxoyl than a sh1t-shield

Also, if a W210 is like a W124, the solid pipes from the gearbox to the oil cooler rust like fury at the front as they turn upwards to the radiator. Waxoyl, or grease, might be a good idea here. Or just replace the pipes before they rust through and you lose all your gearbox oil

Hi

My brother has a 200 Kompressor Saloon 1999 i think, (in Southern Ireland) and when i had it on the ramp it definitely didnt have an undertray like my E300 Turbodiesel.
Good advice from Bolide, when i Waxoyled mine i took off all the wheel arch liners etc you would be surprised what u fine under those.

The thing about the crossmember rusting is more prone to the models with the acoustic shield, i think it traps water, there are mods chatted about that consist of spacers to allow the water to drain etc.

Good Luck

If you want an undertray - just order one from Mercman or Dronsfields(breakers) . They must have hundreds littering the place for a fraction of the dealer cost.

Hello There, i see from one of your posts you have an e300 td(w210). I just got one here in dublin which i bought from monaghan. It , like your brothers car has no under tray fitted and needed the flex hoses around the bottom of the rad replaced, i also had to dom the anti roll bars and links. I've just come back from the NCT(same as mot) and they say i need ball joints, any ideas where's the best to get them. (I needed a radiator back in february and got one from www.micksgarage.ie for €299 incl vat and postage which i think was good value , but they don't do ball joints)

Hi

The lower balljoints are about £25 sterling each from the dealers in Portadown or Belfast. Eurocarparts in Belfast will do them slightly cheaper.

engine undertray for my '99 210 saloon was £19 ish from dealer, but did not include the lumpy sound deadening pad.i made my own out of dense black foam from high street foam shop and stuck it on with spray adhesive.

dronsfields couldn't be arsed...
"we don't sell undertrays mate"

mercman were interested but needed part no. to identify...perhaps someone should introduce them to the ruski site.
