I have an E class W210 2000 model. The ESP warning light came on and I took it to the Merc Dealer to get it fixed. 3 hours later and the appropriate charge they could not find the fault! I took it to an independent for a service who replaced the brake pads, which were badly worn. The light has not come on since. Could this have been the cause?

No that just is not possible, could the warning have been the brake pad wear lamp

ESP light

Hi Malcolm,
No definately ESP light which is confirmed by on board computer telling me to visit workshop. I suppose one of the brake sensors could have been disturbed in the process of changing the pads, or a loose wire of some sorts. Either way from what you have said it sounds like I should expect the light to come back on in the near future.

I had the same thing happening to my 2002 w210 that I bought in Nov of last year. The previous owner also said that he took it into the dealership and they couldn't find a problem or the cause. I read where the brake pedal switch could be a possibility so I replaced mine. I've only had it come on one time and I did what I read, turning your steering wheel all the way one way and then all the way back the other direction. Seemed to reset it and everything has been good so far.

When you say it came on, do you mean it came on (big yellow triangle) and stayed on?

If so, and for the purposes of eliminating all possible causes, are you sure you hadn't inadvertently turned it off at the switch?

I've done this on mine! Reached for something from the ashtray and accidently hit the switch. It took me a few minutes to realise what I'd done! :D

not the yellow triangle light/switch. However the light has not come on for the last 3 weeks, so I am crossing my fingers!. I suppose it could have been reset by turning the steering whhel fully one way then the other but I didn't do this conciously!

The yellow triangle is the ESP warning. What light are you saying came on?
