W210 handbrake

Afternoon all,can I assume for the handbrake that drums and shoes are in place for 1998 e280 w210 ,pads are visible plenty of pad left ,but is a separate mechanism for handbrake

U prob have linings inside rear of disc. As most just use park.. These often sieze up you may need to strip mechanism and check cables more freely .

Yes, the W210 rear discs have an enlarged hub within which the parking brake shoes are fitted.
As mentioned they often seize through lack of use.
You'll need to back off the shoes using the adjustment wheel (accessible though a hole on the back plate) before you can remove the disc.
Sometimes the mechanism can seize and leave a shoe in contact with the friction surface - it will then overheat and crumble.

No it actually works perfectly I'm just thinking I might look at shoe wear

I use my handbrake all the time, I dont think it's very good for the whole weight of the car to be held by just the transmission (I live on a hill).

Yes I agree I always put my handbrake on ,just habit I suppose with previously using manual cars
