2000 MY has suddenly developed madly flashing indicator on the right only. Bulb is suspected as the main headlamp mounted unit appears dead - but no message from computer - so is it the relay maybe?
This sudden occurrence has been accompanied by what sounds like a detached component knocking about inside the steering column shroud. At the last service I complained about a rubbing / squeaking noise from the shroud area and the stealer's response was to suggest it was an part of the multifunction switch and to replace (£45 + £70 labour).
Anyone any thoughts, and especially, does anyone know how to get the column shroud off so I can get at the switch?
Cheers muchly.

Did you ever find out how to remove the shroud, I also need to know as my cruise control switch needs replacing.

Er no. In the end I took it to the indie. I checked and the indicator turned out to be a bulb which replaced (so I was paranoid), but the grinding noise was the airbag spiral (replaced), and there's a tiny amount of play in the column assembly (not MOT threatening).

From what I saw while his technician put it all back together though, I'm guessing it can only be done by taking the wheel off - the actual shroud is a one piece tube... if you do that you'll probably need a decode once its back on as all sorts of airbag / SRS warning messages will probably ping up!
