Hello,

The fuel gauge dial has not lit up as normal for a while and I decided to change the bulb.

But after replacing the bulb it was still the same. So I changed it again in case the new bulb was faulty.Again nothing. In case the new bulbs were not the right ones I used the ones from the coolant indicator, still no change.

I opened up the casing in case there were bulbs to replace inside but I didn't see any.

Is there anything else I need to change?

The bulbs are from the main dealer 12v 1.3w at £2.20 each.

Thanks.

Hi Malcolm,

I went by the writing on the cover which says 1.3w and what the dealer said.I'll get the right ones tomorrow.

Where are the 3 12v 2w bulbs located on the inside? I can see two of these on the outside and have already ordered them.

By the way I am still trying to find the bulb holder for the heater control unit. The dealer said its the same as the bulb holder in the vent dials but its not.Whilst checking this I saw this small black box under the windscreen.

Do you know what this is?

Thanks.

Fair enough then I was not right saying there were 3 yes they are clearly marked 2 x 2w and the others are 1.3w

when you say youre trying to find the bulb for the heater control unit, do you mean where the blower , vent and temp controls are? if so, pull the two rotary knobs (for fan and vents) off the front of the unit. underneath theres some whitish looking plastic with a little flap in each one. theyre a bit fiddly, but if you flip them open with a small screwdriver (wish id taken pics when i did mine!) and the bulbs are in the opening. just a capless push fit bulb. very fiddly but not difficult to do. theyre 1.3w bulbs if i remember correctly! that seals it though. every job i do from now on, im taking pics!

Ive done this job recently and you simply cannot go by what the EPC system says. It does not have enough detail and is highly inaccurate regarding the bulbs on the dash.

You have to find the blown bulb on the rear of the panel, see whats written next to it, and take the bulb to the Merc dealer for a replacement.
