W210 Intermitent wipe n/w

Can any advise if its possible to isloate the problem, the intermitent wipe ( pos 1 on stalk ) continouesly wipes. Think could be rain sensor or intermitent relay, when stalk in pos 1 can feel clicking from relay, any ideas ?

Do you have the rain sensing option? If so ensure that the blue sensor in the screen behind the rear-view mirror is clean. If this is very greasy then it can confuse the sensor. A cheap fix before going further.
