I seem to have lost my old login, but nevermind onto my main question.

I have a 1998 E320 using the m112 V6 engine type. No problems to report, but two questions.

In contrast to other similar car models with a similar engine mine sounds quite "whiney" when you rev it and perhaps a little noisy at idle(not rattly), it has covered 97000 miles and has had a new V-belt recently (no difference) if i run briefly without this belt then it's still the same - so i can only assume its the general noise of this engine -is this is normal?

the other thing is when the engine is cold overnight it always revs about 1200 - 1300 rpm for a little while..then its OK is that normal?

I have a V6 E320 too, of early 1999 vintage, and mine revs at 1200 for about 2 minutes when started from cold, then drops to around 800, from whence it slowly drops to around 500/600 when the engine is fully warmed up. I always allow the revs to drop to the aforementioned 800 before trying to engage D and take off, as I get the feeling a lot of components are being put under strain if the revs are still at 1200.

The engine does seem to make a bit of noise when the revs go up, although in today's traffic conditions that doesn't happen very often! At 'normal' speeds (1500 - 3000 rpm) I think the engine is pretty quiet.

yep i think this must be normal then..

I looked at a Lexus is250 yesterday (very nice car) and that did the same thing so i,m convinced no problems.

I also normally wait till the rpm dies before driving of..
