One of my fog lamps is out. The manual says to remove the bumper cover to gain access?

Which bit is that, then?

the bumper cover is the whole plastic bumper as we know it, they come off very easy normally 4 bolts. If you get stuck, ask.

Right, thanks.

I'm of the opinion that no car should ever go on sale unless the designer can dismantle it with a single sized spanner! :D

You are lucky you are not on the BMW forum. think it was the model after E46. Any way 4.5 hours to change a headlamp bulb.

replacing fog lamp bulb

as i understand it you only need to remove the front bumper under panel ,which is directly under the bumper not the whole bumper .am doing mine tommorow plus oil change /coil pack/various bulbs etc ,i need to get some overtime in this month!

On the facelift W210 the front undertray has 2 hinged panels to gain access to the front fog lamps. I don't know if this applies to earlier cars but worth a look before you get heavily involved in dismantling the front of the car.

Sorry maybe I miss read the fog lamp out,I thought you meant, fallen out or the like, not that a bulb had gone.
The bumper cover is still the whole plastic peice though in MB words.

Its a pain to access , far easier on a ramp if you have access to one

The front right foglight has been the only bulb to blow in my car in 4.5 years only thing it it has blown 4 times which is more or less how many times i have used the front fog lamps!!!

MB claimed to have fixed the problem and it hasnt blown since the last service 2 months ago

W210 fog lamps

Just completed changing my LH side fog lamp assembly entirely after the original glass cover was shattered by FOD (foreign object damage) presumably. I had to put the front of the car up on ramps then remove the plastic undertray (10x8mm hex screws) to get at the two fog lamp attachment 8mm hexagonal screws. Very difficult to get the update model up on ramps due to the low frontal clearance. Jacked up each side to get the ramps partly in position. If I did it again I would take the bumper off first to avoid jacking. Incidentally; if only a bulb change is required then that can easily be accomplished by opening a plastic inspection flap on the undertray and under each fog lamp and unlatching a retaining clip at the rear of the lamp. Car must still be elevated though as so low in this area. The inspection area is not big enough to remove the lamp assembly completely though unfortunately.

There are hinged inspection panels under the foglights on the pre-facelift 210's access is restricted though.
