Clumsy me - managed to break the locking tabs off whilst removing the sidelight bulb to change it.

Where's the best place to get a new one from? Dealer, auto electrician or scrappy?

Once bought it's out with the soldering iron and heatshrink!

Hi,
I Would be looking for one from the scrappy, but Merc-man is only ten minutes down the road from me so would be my easiest option.
I would intially try to remove the pins from lamp holder assembly and swap them over or failing that do a solder joint and splice the new lamp holder into your cars loom.
If the pins come out fairly easy a new lamp holder from MB i would,nt think would be to expensive if available seperatly.
I have assumed the front side light as the rear i believe have no wires directly to the lamp holders but are fed via a multi plug to the lamp holder assembly.

Sorry yes, its the front one.
Always awkward buggers to replace, especially on the drivers side.

Doh, same here! I'll post the part number, cost, and how I got on with fitting (solder/pin swap etc) when the job's done.

Mine is the front offside unit.

Cheers

Just completed this job. Easy? Yup! 5 Mins tops if you know what to expect. I took a few more minutes to work out what was going on...

The part is:

A 210 826 05 82 and costs £11.99 including VAT from the Dealership.

Available here for our USA readers:

http://europartsamerica.com/ssf/part_number_search/2108260582# for $19.49.

The original plastic bulb holder had pretty much disintegrated - it was very brittle indeed.

One thing that was immediately noticeable was the wires were shorter than those on the front offside sidelight in my W210. I was expecting to have to do some pretty serious contortionism to find out where the grey wire led to. The brown wire was terminated under a snap-cap fitting, but looked to be a 90 deg fit. Doh!

However, just get a small, flat-bladed screwdriver on the new holder and press down on the brass tabs on the outside. The terminals will unlock and pull out. Yes, both of them - if you have a probelm with the earth side, keep at it, gently, because it will come out. Now you have the plastic holder free (which, BTW, is marked Hella 149915). Remove the bulb and simply do the same to the broken holder. Then refit the terminals into the new holder. They'll snap into position, and will only fit in the correct position.

Halogen bulb wiped over with meths, replaced and job done!!

Hope this helps someone. If I could find the plastic holders available on their own for less than £12 I'd replace the holders all round, just to save any future problems. The plastic Hella part really ought to cost around £3 IMO.

Cheers

Jon
