Can anyone tell me what size wheels i can put on my 99 w210? I'm thinking about 19" or 20". Will i lose a lot of the comfort by going up to these?

I know 18" AMGs fit as they are an option when the car is new. As regards comfort my Avantgarde factory suspension settings with 16" alloys 215/55 profile tyres are quite firm enough for me.

I would be very wary of going down to 45 or lower profiles without experiencing the effect on the suspension by trying a car thus equipped.

I suppose if the roads were better in the UK this wouldn't be such an issue. Not many bowling green road surfaces around us I'm afraid.

Malcolm 210 is right, if you fit 20" you will be down to a 35 profile and feel every matchstick on the road

Also tyre pressures become more critical on ultra low profile tyres, the change in ambient temperature through the year will affect pressures, so they will need to be checked more often

Also, with 225 or 235/35/19s on 8J rims the potential for kerb damage is increased - the tyre 'cushion' is lost on very low profile tyres. I would also check the camber change on full suspension movement as the lower the profile the worse the effects of camber change are. MB will have built in some change, which usually tend to the +ve to induce understeer at large roll angles. The results will be less grip and greater tyre wear.

Do you get the impression that its not a good idea?

With bad roads the 16" wheels are enough. Any bigger and the ride gets uncomfortable unless you stick to motorways.
