Hi,
I wonder if any member can provide assistance or advice with the problem I am having with my Year 2001 E200 Komp. - Manual transmission
I have included only what I think is relevant information but if anyone wants to ask anything else - feel free.
The car is in good condition with approx 130,000 miles recorded.
To pass the Irish N.C.T.(M.O.T.) test I had to carry out the following works among others and the car was running fine until then.
I. Replace rear brake pads.
2. Adjust rear hanbrake shoes to achieve required efficency and balance across
the rear axle
3. Replace the upper suspension arm on the near side . ( this involved removing and refitting the electrics/e.c.u. forward of the bulkhead to gain access to the top bolt securing the arm.
It is worth noting here that I found that one of the multiplugs in the second ecu/ control unit from the bulkhead was saturated in oil - a common problem I am led to believe.
I copmpleted the various jobs without problem and the car started first time on completion .
However on starting the abs / esp/ bas/ lights wouldnt extinguish and the speedo failed to work .
After trying the usual simple cures - fuses - loose wires etc - I drove the car to a guy with a diagnostic unit which showed up - open circuit rear n/s wheel sensor .
I bought a good 2nd hand speed sensor which I fitted but all lights remained on.
I checked continuity on all speed sensor wires - all fine and resistance across all speed sensors.
When I went back to the car the next day it refused to crank and the cooling fan started to run after a few secs.
I suspect an ecu problem from reading various posts on here but i live in a remote area and it will be difficult and expensive to get a "dead" car to someone with a diagnostic unit .
Anybody got any suggestions or does anybody know if there is a way of confirming whether or not the ecu is knackered.
Thanks for your attention ,
Paul.
