W211 220CDI which engine oil?

Time for an oil and filter change on our 2005 W211 220CDI estate and I wondered what engine oil is recommended.
Our specialist, who I can't get to at the moment, always just puts Castrol GTX Magnatec on his invoices but there are several versions of it.
Which one do folks recommend please?

These 20l cubes from the Mercedes dealers are great. Oil to the right spec, very good value, and in a great container with an easy use tap - all straightforward to recycle. Great invention. Does nearly three oil changes on the W211.

Any oil that meets 229.51 spec.
You will need 6.5 litres.
Choose a good oil filter, eBay will help you be sure it's the correct fit.

Consider buying an oil extraction pump it makes the job much easier. A problem is many are only good for 6 litres.

Be ready with cloths for any spillage.
A funnel is a good idea when it comes to refilling, wrap cloths around the oil filler, and pour slowly or it will gurgle back at you.

As others have said MB229.51 either 5w-30 or 0w-30.
