You'll need the command unit, a satnav ariel, ideally the separate dvd drive and an audio gateway plus wiring so it's not a simple task but it is doable.

Have a chat with these guys who can advise on what is possible (not sure if an HDD unit will work in a pre 09 model - may do but don't know) - they can also supply the other bits such as wiring, ariels, gateways etc and point you in the right direction on fitting.

hi there, sorry to be adding to this really old thread. but i was wondering if someone could help me with an explanation on changing my audio 20 cd to the command dvd unit please.
both me and my step dad have got an e class (w211) but he is about to change his and i am to be having his command dvd unit. but i was wondering if it is possible for me to take all the parts out of his car rather than buying the wiring kits new, as this seems expensive. in all honesty i dont want the sat nav to work. i am only interested in using the in dash unit.
i have just read the following,

COMAND-APS needs the Dual Tuner version in order to be able to tune into the FM station transmitting traffic information so that Dynamic TMC routing works properly during navigation.

to me this sounds like if im not requiring the sat nav side to things i wouldnt require the dual tuner. does that make any sense?

No that is incorrect, currently you have no seperate AGW so you will need the one from his car. Comand NTG1, Audio 50 and Audio 20 cassette use a seperate AGW tuner. Audio 20 cd has everything built into the headunit so no seperate AGW.

Assuming his car doesnt have Harmon Kardon to fit the Comand in your car you will need the Comand unit, the AGW tuner, and if you want navigation the navigation processor and you will need to buy a gps antenna. Your going to be taking apart both cars so you may as well remove and fit the nav processor to your car too. I think you will need to buy retrofit looms as I wouldnt have thought as factory fit they still have the connections at the headunit end and then run a seperate loom from behind the headunit to the boot as you do when retrofitting Comand.

To put your Audio 20 in his car you will need to run a loom from the boot to behind the headunit as some of the connections the Audio 20 needs will currently be in the boot as the AGW was there.I have not actually seen a loom for this purpose myself so you will have to check if one exists.

There is a retrofit guide here which outline what the Comand retrofit involves: http://www.mercupgrades.com/W211+E-class-15.html

Retrofit parts: http://www.comandonline.co.uk/W211-W219-Comand-Retrofit/

Alfie and Richard from Comand.co.uk based in Woking, Surrey would be able to do the swap for you. www.comand.co.uk

It wont be a simple job and will be time consuming. You will need some coding done on STAR too. If you really want Comand in your car it would just be better to upgrade to the lastest MY09> Comand NTG2.5. Everything is built into the headunit so no seperate AGW or nav processor.

W211 E-Class 2007 220CDi
2009 command to replace 2007 Audio 20?

Sorry if this question has already been answered but having read all the messages on this subject I am a bit confused.

I want to add an ipod connection to my car with charging and steering wheel control. The car is a w211 e-class late 2007 with standard CD player, gelephone pre-wiring and bluetooth module in armrest.

I am told the mCar will work but this is £500.

I have seen a command stereo advertised on ebay (I think it is the one fitted to the 2009 e-class). I could offset the cost by selling the original stereo and the hands-free bluetooth module. I would probably then add a Dension or similar.

Does this sound like a good plan?

Thanks

Grommett
