W211 Audio 20 Upgrade

Hi

I have been offered a replacement (newer) AUDIO 20 unit to replace my existing standard unit without phone capability. It is a NTG 2.5 with Bluetooth; part number A211 870 58 95 - MF2820. Am I correct in thinking this is a direct replacement? Ideally I would also like the telephone Bluetooth function to work too!

Any advice would be gratefully received....

It will be for a W211 (57 plate) E class estate.

No its not a straight swap. The wiring is different. If you plug it straight in things will go bang!

Looking at the cost it seems that I may be better off biting the bullet and looking at the Comand navigation unit? I will contact the 'commandonline' site you suggested to discuss....

I am also looking at getting the phone working on my APS 20 unit in my C Class...so better start saving!

Whatever you do, don't go to the dealership with that. They quoted me over 4k to replace my Audio20 to Command, because the "entire" car has to be rewired and reprogrammed. For that money i might buy another W211 with Command in it already

Sadly this is another case of a dealer mis informing a customer.

The whole car certainly does not need re-wiring. What most do is to sub contract it out to someone like us and then double the price to the customer.

I contacted www.comand.co.uk and they will install it for for a not unreasonable fee but I do need to buy the correct loom (£199) so will get this done in the next few months....

I have also sourced a suitable command unit, cd changer and navi disk for my W203 estate.......I am told that the unit is a direct swap but I need to get the D2B cable for the CD Changer head unit connection.....but that's another story!
