Hi All,

My E320 CDI W211 has now covered ~63K miles and is due front pads / disks and rear pads, as the fronts are >90% worn and the rears >75%. This will be the first change of pads or discs.

In addition the front tyres are just about on the legal limit having covered 21,500 miles on the rear and 13,500 miles on the front (35,000 miles in total :D)

My questions for the forum are;

"what do you think the price inc fitting and VAT for the front discs/pads and rear pads will be at a Mercedes main dealer or at an Independent Mercedes Specialist?"

and

"what do you think the price inc fitting and VAT for 2 new Goodyear NCT 5's 245x45x17 W rated MO Spec tyres will be at a Mercedes main dealer or at an Independent Tyre Specialist?"

I think if you....

buy the discs & pads from Euromerc at c. 50% off (or ECP/GSF specifying OEM)
follow the safety guidelines re SBC & fit them yourself in 2 hours or so using the opportunity to clean the back of the alloys
buy Conti or Michelin tyres from Cosco inc fitting and balancing

then you will save hundreds of pounds.

(are you sure the front needs discs are worn out from just one set of pads and, from the mileage obtained from the pads, what must be careful driving?)

Would guess, £260 for mb parts Russ and labour £300 at dealers!!

Real world, again for the parts, as above, dont like using patten parts. £100-150 max labour!!

Nick at Euromerc has nearly all the discs and pads in stock at about 50% off - all still in the Merc boxes. They end up the same or less than pattern...

All the Costcos are listed on their website.

To get in you need to be able to prove you are a trader or be in one of the accepted job categories. My membership is via my Teacher wife....

Usually save at least £60 per pair of quality branded tyres and the fitting service is very good. If you also pick up the correct oil for your car at the same time you will make a second saving at the next service (huge saving if you use dealer servicing - for my 229.51 oil for the DPF Diesel E Class the oil saving is c. £65 per service using Costco Mobil 1 ESP or Castrol Edge versus 8L @ dealer £ per litre).

I'd be getting good quality OE brake parts from one of the two favoured factors.

Tyre wise this page may be of some help as a guide price...it's usually difficult to beat Camskill prices but they do now charge a small amount for delivery (thanks to one of our posters for pointing that out some time ago)

Quite so, I fully agree.

Having previously wasted my time with badly fitting parts or faulty parts which needed to be replaced again, I've cut spurious parts right out of my working practices. I find that the confidence of knowing that the genuine parts are going to fit and work properly is worth the extra cost.

So how much are the discs and pads at euromerc? No SBC on mine however a drive at 25degrees (not temp!) makes it challenging to jack the car up to do the work myself.
How much are Conti or Michelin at Cosco?

I've just checked Black Circles and they have the NCT5's at £264.44 delivered for the pair or £280.04 fully fitted.

Yes, fairly sure, I used to get ~30K for pads and ~60K for discs on my previous E320, this one I've gone 63K for both. I would say I drive carefully, I wouldn't say I drive slowly though, I just don't like to brake although I do like to accelerate and regularly see the yellow idiot light flashing away at me.

My mobile indy chap charges me a tenner a wheel, and i should imagine you'd be able to match that, however most tyre places in my area charge about £15/17.50 per tyre.

What i would say is try and find a good independent tyre specialist, i did and now use them all the time, i get the price from Camskill, and let them know what it is, they don't match it obviously but they usually come in about £7 or 8 per tyre more including fitting etc, so it works for them and me, and we're all happy.
However i run Vredestein or Toyo tyres normally and these might be easier for them to get the right price on.

More importantly they can fit tyres properly without wrecking my wheels (more mature chaps which i prefer), and they can balance my 4x4 tyres properly too, and that's hard to find.

How much are Conti or Michelin at Cosco?

Varies by model but discs about £30 each and pads about £25-30 per set.

So for the front you save about £90 on parts versus dealer list (although you should be able to take 10% off at the parts desk).

Don't know your tire size - I do lots of miles so I stuck to standard 16" 5-spoke wheels as the tyres are only around £100 each fitted.

And I use Event Tyres.
You go on their website and order what you want, they phone the next day and arrange a convenient time, then they come to your home or work and fit the tyres. It's painless and although I always compare other firms' prices, they have always been the cheapest.

I generally check blackcircles and mytyres and go with whoever is the cheaper. Then buy fully fitted and use one of their fitting stations, though I must say blackcircles stations seem to be alot better than mytyres.

They will not be genuine Mercedes parts so I won't fit them. I put the tyre sizes in the original post 245x45x17

Thanks Cole, Your prices are pretty close to the mark  I cannot think why

Mercedes Independent want £434.44 all in for new pads all round and new front discs.

My tyre specialist will do the NCT5's for £246.75 all in

Any bets on what the local Mercedes garage want for the above 2 jobs?
