Anyone have a part number for the thermostat for W211 E220, without the housing?

Seems a bit of a waste to change the whole thing.

I have the part number for the stat with housing etc but can't find a part number for just the thermostat

VIN is WDB2110082B214302

I think that it only comes complete with housing.

Seems such a waste to have to change the whole thing!

I agree, it would not be so bad if they lasted for a few years, but they do not, I feel sure that MB have them made like this to keep cars coming into the workshop.

Have just change mine on a 320cdi the MB ones do not last, this time I put a Vernet one on as Sergius Vernet invented them.
Works well so far, so we shall see.

I'm all for clever hacks but might that affect the resale value a bit

Any chance of a translation?

Edit: I can see what's been done now my coffee has kicked in, very clever, might be worth at go but I'd still have to
remove the housing to remove the failed stat, yes?

If the stat is stuck open the normal way it fails, then it could stay in. Probably better to remove it.

On an older car, or a lesser marque, it maybe worth it but it seems somehow wrong to do it on a modern Merc!

E220 Cdi thermostat

Hi
all, i have E220 cdi 2008 model, it had engine temperature problem, temperature used to sit around 80c.
i have managed to replace thermostat, part number Mercedes-Benz 646 Engine Thermostat NEW A6462000015.total cost 54 pound and it took me 45 min i did the job without draining colent,
result is amazing as temperature reaches straight to 90+ as my gauge is digital hence can not read if its 92c, but its fantastic car now drive slightly smoother i recommend this job to any one have some DIY knowledge gents very easy just 3 screws. make sure you clean engine body to avoid leakage

Mine went on a trip and wouldn't go above 40 degrees. Everyone local was out of stock. An alternative is to get one from a scrappy. Actually get 2 or 3 and collect the brake switches as well. They're dead easy to get out and the older ones generally don't have the third small diameter outlet. Turn the housing upside down and using a flat screwdriver, ping out the central divider. The stat will now prise out easily using two flat screwdrivers. Just push down equally on the two "wings" and rotate until they disengage from the housing. It will just lift out now.

Put the stat in a small pot of water and boil slowly. It should open just as the little bubbles start to form.

Replacement is the opposite of removal. Fit the stat, press in the divider and replace. I found that the rubber seal had flattened out, so I prised it out, cleaned up both surfaces and applied a thin coat of gasket.

I'm loving the picture showing ambient air temp is -32C and the engine temp is still at 80C (bit low but I'll make an exception).

Also that the car has nearly 400,000 km on the clock...

Hi all, the temp gauge on my Mercedes is taking longer and longer to reach it's operating temp of 92c, so I guess it's time to replace the thermostat. The car details; 2010 Eclass, w212, OM651 diesel engine, 5 speed 722.6 transmission. I have checked out a parts catalog, and it gives 4 different part Nrs for the above vehicle, see attached pic. Can anyone advise as to the correct part Nr. for the thermostat? Thanks.
