Bit of a random one but does anyone else on here own a W211 E270 like mine?
If so what are you're thoughts on the power delivery?
It feels quicker than 177bhp in my opinion, my mothers leon which has 170bhp feels no where near as quick past 50mph!
Then again i have never driven an E320 (straight 6 version) but is it alot quicker than the E270?

Is Leon gasoline one? Bigger and different torque behavior makes diesel feel... different. And yes, 320CDI is quicker than 270CDI. About 30hp and 100Nm more you can feel under your *ss... again my remapped C219 (V6 320CDI) is again almost two step ahead

Had a W211 E270 for 8 years, brill bit of kit. I brokered 3 through a dealer for me a mate and his Dad. 2 of them were on over 300k miles when 1 was sold to my neighbour who put another 100k on it. I got 'free' leather and mats and other bits and the engine upgrade from a 220 gratis on an avantgarde version for the 3 sales.

The W211 stills looks class given their age :D:cool:

I have not had a W211, but I had a C class 270 Estate, which I chipped.
I could not believe the sheer power of that thing! It really did go, from low revs right up to maximum.
More than that, the overall economy was amazing.
That was one car I really, really regret selling.
As I've said before, the 5 cylinder 270 engine was one of Merc's best kept secrets.

It was but not in the ML for some reason.

I had both 320’s (IL6 and V6) and they had power in reserve all day long.

Sorry its a 2.0 TDI, the only reason i didnt buy a 320cdi was because i was 22 and i couldnt get one insured! Thats why i went for a 270cdi, just didnt know if i was missing out!

I agree i really do like these 5 cylinder engines! I dont think i will chip this car should go to 220bhp according to TDI tuning but this is becoming a car that will be staying for a looooonnggg time most likely as a work vehicle im only the second owner for mine too :D

As far as i can gather the only 177bhp 5 cylinder was in the w211! Both ML and C class got the 170bhp version which i find bizarre especially in the ML! I know the v6 in the W211 goes like s*** of a shovel because my dad had one!

The 211 was fitted with the om647 which is essentially a re engineered 612 that was fitted to everything else, as has been said they are brilliant engines, I know my 270 is still on the road, I had to sell it when it was at 170k due to work requirements.
They do also map very nicely, mine was done at MSL and dyno’d at 225 bhp (I forget the torque now) but that was without even pushing it, we could have happily gone to 245 but as it was my daily runner and I was doing 40k a year we played it a little safe.
Oh and it would happily average 45mpg per month with my mileage

270CDI has perhaps best power feeling/fuel consumption ratio... :)

First Merc I drove was a C270 cdi W203, it was a loaner as my Volvo S60 D5 had been rammed up the back end by an impatient taxi driver!
I was hugely impressed by the power and go in that engine, took it over the Beallach na ba (To Applecross), never forget that!
Also great sound track from the 5 cylinders ...
