I’m looking to sling in a new fuel filter while I have the engine cover off to do the air filter. Will anything bad happen if I don’t prime the filter with diesel? It’s not something I have sitting around, so wondering whether running it dry might cause the fuel pump to cavitate or run hot (as I know they sometimes use the diesel as a lubricant)?

Nope, they self prime very well these days, just turn the key to position 2 a couple of times without actually starting the engine (2-3 should do it) and in the next go actually start, just make sure your battery is charged fully as it can still take a bit of cranking to get it running
