Hi the RH electric wing mirror position adjuster isn’t working.

The LH works fine.

But when you hit the switch for the RH mirror adjustment and click on the 4 way arrows there is no adjustment.

I am guessing the electric motor has died?

Any suggestions please for a fix.

Is removing the mirror cover shroud easy enough to day etc…?

Thank you

More likely the wires in the hinge have snapped - especially if you use the folding option regularly

Ahhhh I see.

Seems to be a common problem across many manufacturers then (I’ve had the wiring go on my Mk5 golf also).

Are we talking about the wiring harness in the door jam area? Through the rubber boot?

I’ll have to take a look but don’t want to risk damaging any other wires.

And yes….I have the power folding option activated so every time the car is unlocked and locked they operate.

I’ll take peak and see. Any tips for removing the mirror cover or is it straightforward? Does the mirror glass need to be removed first?

It is common unfortunately, there's a few videos on YouTube and some threads on here to get the cover off -

In general it is check in the hinge area and feel each wire through the insulation - the ones that feel broken, cut apart and solder a length of tire in - do them individually as they're all the same colour...

Thanks @Blobcat - My W211 right mirror sometimes chooses not to open. Most of the time it is fine. I will probably end up doing this when it decides to give in.

Thank you. Is there a repair kit for the wire?

Or can you by that length of wire from Mercedes?

Any ideas on part number?

Find an automotive electrical outlet (even Hellfrauds will do...) and buy a length of cable - example below - You won't get it from Mercedes - they'll only have the full cable loom available at £££

Ok thank you.

Is there particular connectors I should use?

Lol don’t want to be using a chocolate box or butt connectors. Need something a bit more refined.

I know you can get those small U shaped clamps / connectors but need the correct pliers and jaws to make a good connection.

And then good old heat shrink and electrical tape to finish off?

Soldering iron is what you need for connections - there's not a lot of space so solder and heat shrink

I use silicone insulated multi strand cable to repair areas where the cable flexes regularly, extremely flexible even when cold.

Ahh this sounds just what I need.

Also the electric boot needs a wire replacing as it suffers the same issue of brittle wires breaking which flex as the boot opens and closes.

Can you hook me up with a link for the product you have mentioned @Snake Charmer please.

Well I tried swapping the motor modules round to see if the issue followed onto the other side.

It didn’t work when swapped over with the known good one on the LHS. So must be wiring issue somewhere.

I didn’t strip it all down. But managed to break the silly little plastic cover inside behind the mirror glass (Marked as A046274 front side and on the back A3147422). Sheared the 2 plastic tangs on removal. Doh!!!

This is probably what you need

Might be better just going to a main dealer I think
