Hi all, apologies, this might be a bit of a long-winded post!

I have a weird electical issue with my 2004 E500. The other evening I noticed that the interior light was on - I hadn't used the car for a number of days and the light hadn't been on previously.

I went to unlock the car and although the doors unlocked the boot didn't. On the dash the info panel on the speedo was dimmly illuminated and pulsing slightly. The car wouldn't start, turning the ignition on didn't do anything (no lights on the dashboard).

Because I use the car infrequently (maybe a couple of times a month) I have a battery condition hooked up to the main battery. Normally this shows 12v or thereabouts. It was now showing 6v. After about 10 mins the interior light went out without me doing anything. The battery charger showed 12 or 13V. As it was getting late I locked the car and left it.

This morning was the first time I had a chance to look at the car. The car was unlocked, I was pretty sure I'd locked it. Opening the door the interior light didn't come on. The car wouldn't start, no lights illuminated on the dashboard. The battery charger was showing 6V so I removed the battery and have put it on charge in my garage. I also checked the aux battery in the engine bay. While I was checking it (showed 12+ volts) I noticed the HVAC blower fan was spinning! Disconnected the aux battery in case this was powering it and the fan continued to spin, which it did for about another 15 mins.

No idea what's going on here, car is usually well behaved, although my son mentioned that the interior light was on one evening some time ago. Also, occasionally the radio remains on for a short time after locking the car, so I'm guessing there's something more going on in which the interior light/radio are symptoms rather than the cause?

Anyone had anything similar or any ideas? Or if anyone knows a good auto electrician (mobile would be great!) in the SE London/north Kent area ?

Thanks!

Water ingress to one of the SAM's would be my first check

Thanks Blobcat - had a quick google and it's a bit confusing as to the number and location of SAMs - am I right in thinking there's one in the boot and possibly one in the passenger footwell, although it looks like there might be one (or two!) in the engine bay??
