Hi All
I have a w211 E55 AMG and I love it .......except today!
Got in it to drive to work when I was driving up the road quickly realised it wasnt changing gear, pulled over to turn it off and on again but could only select N and because I had started the car using the keyless option it would not turn off because it kept telling me to select park. Put the car back into D and carried on to limp it back home safe.
As I was driving back I noticed the indicator on the dash was telling me I was in P, upon getting back i found i could still not select P nor change the modes of the gearbox for comfort, sport or manual and still couldn't turn the engine off! eventually I found I could select park providing I didnt put my foot on the brake.
Now the car was in Park i just had to work out how to shut the engine down.......after some thought I removed the surround from the gear stick then reached down and unplugged the selector (longish plug at the ash tray end). After a short while I reconnected it then pressed the start stop button and the car turned off!
At this point I decided a bus was the safer option so left the car. Does anyone have any ideas what is causing this? Any help would be greatfully received. Paul
