W211 E55 AMG - Propshaft Universal Joint

Hi Forum,

Has anyone had their universal joint replaced and propshaft rebalanced?

Would be grateful for some feed back on experience and recommendations for garage for this type of service.

Symptoms:

1. Chassis vibration under hard acceleration
2. Chassis vibration above normal highway speeds

It could be a number of things but does sound like prop or the centre bearing or even the rubber yokes at each end. Also check the tightness of the connecting bolts on the rubber yokes before getting the prop rebalanced.

Hi, have replaced all the following with OEM parts:

Both engine mounts, originals were some what tired.
Transmission mount, original looked ok, changed anyway.
Flex couplings (originals showed signs of cracking).
Propshaft central housing and bearing (original looked ok, changed anyway while propshaft was out)

Looks like UJ is the main culprit, felt notchy when I inspected it, hence my first note. I suspect UJ needs changing and propshaft balancing thereafter.

I've sent a note to my local merc dealer asking if they sell the UJ, I suspect they will tell me they would replace whole propshaft......
