When I return to our 2005 W211 estate I often get an odd creaky noise from the rear as I unlock it. Hard to tell if its from the brakes or in the suspension. This is before touching the car at all so no movement instigated by me. What is going on?

Are you sure its not the central locking pump or one of the door locks?

It definitely sounds like it's coming from under the wheel arch somewhere. its like the car was letting go the brakes or something.

Your car has SBC - when you unlock it the SBC pump will pump up brake pressure but thats in the front of the car.
You will also have air suspension in the rear and it may be the pump for that. The central locking pump is also in the rear of the car and it could be that.
Without more to go on its impossible to say.

Found out a bit more about the creak today. Reversing into a tricky parking space I heard the creak noise as I put the footbrake on. Tried it a few more times to check and sure enough it's that same sound every time I pressed the brake. Should I be concerned yet?

Could be the SBC pump, mine sounds more like a groan than creek when charging. I wouldn't expect it to sound every time you brake though. If it is the SBC pump, I am sure it would display a message to visit workshop asap.

My w211 freaks at the front when it approaches full lock. I'm used to it now.
