Hi -newly acquired E-class with issues!

My 'new' car (2004 model E320) came with two keys - one a black coffin key, the other a black coffin key with a chrome surround. The chrome key starts the engine and holds the memory seat settings etc, but won't lock or unlock the car. The garage said they'd changed the battery and it worked for them, but now it doesn't work. Any suggestions? How do I get to the battery - I've tried the same method as with the older black key but it won't come open. Thanks.

On the chrome key as we call it, use the end of the metal key to lever in the grey block, at the same time put you finger nail between the top and the case and the battery carrier will slide out, they can be tight, after you replace the batteries try holding the key in front of a camera and if working you will see the beam.

Both keys should hold seat/steering wheel settings. You can turn key dependency on or off on the dash menu.

£40.00 means '15min. work'. That's what I learned today ^^

The problem will be with the batteries in the key, the key is already programmed as it works in the ignition switch.

I've changed the battery (twice) and it still won't lock or unlock the car but works the ignition etc. The garage I bought the car from said it worked for them - but they would say that wouldn't they. I'll see what happens at Merc dealers next week. Thanks again for help. Great site.

If the car does not unlock the car but starts it OK you should check to see the beam in a camera as in the picture.

If there is a beam in the camera, pop the key into the ignition and press any button twice within 4 seconds
