Hi
This question has probably been asked before, but bear with me.
whilst slowly driving round uneven roads I get a knocking from the front of the car,
now most of you will direct me to drop-links, but these appear to be ok,
I had a engine mounting on one of my cars (190E) give the same symptons years ago ,I,m wondering has anyone encountered faulty engine mounts on a E class before or can any one suggest where to look apart from rollbar/drop-links.
exhaust is good condition and no other obvious faults,
thanks to anyone who replies

ps all balljoints and drag-links and control arms are ok

more info my friend, knocking at the front or rear? can you describe in more detail the `inevitable knock` - we haven`t heard it. ball joints seem to be ok - with suspension suspended and checked with appropriate pry bar and light? what about the forward control arm bushes? and any coil springs broken?

Yes mate
this is where its starting to get puzzling, all the obvious suspension items have been checked in a correct manner, The car was MOTd last month (which is pretty vigorous over here) and nothing pointed out, this is why I have raised the issue of an engine mount, this would have hardly been picked up on unless it was really bad, the 190e engine mount I mentioned was rising on the central bolt giving a dunk every so often, thats why I was curious if ayone has had an mount problem.

Iv had a few ball joints go for the ARB on the front,it bolts to the link and is pressed into the arm.remove the links and inspect the ball joints, push them up and down,if one feels free id replace it,you wont feel much play at all. Or you could disconnect the links and drive the car to see if theres any difference.

Hi, Just fixed a similar noise on my W211, first thinking balljoints etc, then noticed a slight leak on offside front shocker decided to replace both front shocks with Sachs boge items from local motor factors at a cost of £160 and sorted no knocking! worth a look cheers Dave
