Hi guys and gals,

Only 3 days into my W211 ownership and the parking sensors are now not working

I am guessing the fact that it is raining today has something to do with it.

When I start the car, I get a "bleeeeeeep" noise and the red leds light up on the front and rear displays.

While driving, if I come to a stop the system comes back on and all the lights light up on the front nearside display, thus I believe I had a sensor problem in that location.

I've read some other posts on this issue and aparently it is possible to remove the bumper strip that the sensors sit in and thus I can have a look at cleaning / drying them properly

Kind regards

Just to add, the sensors on mine started working again today after it had been dry for about 4-5 hours. With any luck, I just need a bit of silicon on a connector or something?

The bumper inserts do indeed pull off. Have just done it on an 05 model. There is a knack and a special tool available but to be honest I used a selection of flat blade screw drivers and was very careful not to damage anything. Start at the top trailing edge of the trim and you will see a small slot. Insert blade into here and ping the first clip. You can then combine squeezing, twisting and joggling the remaining few clips. Lastly give the trim a sideways tug away from the number plate in a sideways motion as it is hooked onto a couple of lugs. There before you will be all the sensors and wiring exposed. On my old Beemer you could test the sensors by listening for clicks. Don't know if MB are similar.

Thanks Malcolm, the docs you sent are exactly what I need to remove the sensors.

Does anyone know what causes them to go bad when wet? Is it the connectors? I am thinking of siliconing over them to stop future water ingress?

Malcolm,

I have got a similar problem with my S203 (C32). Please could you send me the details to get to the sensors.

My problem appears to be coming from the sensors on my rear bumper.

Thanks for your help!

HI Malcolm, guess what, my front do the same but i am not sure if it is the garage that has done something wrong. It went in for a slight scratch and body work repair after a nice woman at my little girls school scraped down the side of it in her l200 pick up truck!! any thoughts and here is my email if you would be so kind to send the instructions on it would be appreciated.

thanks mark

Just to add, I found and replaced the bad sensor in mine some time ago and parktronic is now 100% functional :)

Just got ny 2004 E320Cdi Estate back from dealer who had attempted a "fix" on the parktronic by scratching the paint off the sensors.....and charged me £80 into the bargain. Surprsingly it didn't work. Not sure if the problem is front or rear...but I intend to start at the front.

Could I have a copy of the document please.....many thanks
