Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help me. I have a 2005 E320 CDI Avantgarde estate (station wagon), and have lost both indicators at the rear. Both the bulbs are fine, and the tail lamps are working. Both front indicators are fine. I don't get any notifications on the dash board to tell me that the indicators have stopped working. I did accidentally wire the battery backwards, which blew a fuse which I replaced. If anyone can help I would be most grateful

Hello and welcome

Reverse polarity from the battery can blow a few things including SAMs (Signal Acquisition Modules) these control the functions of the car and do strange things when subjected to reverse polarity (or getting wet)

Hi Blobcat, thanks for the reply. I have looked through wiring diagrams and have found the wires for the indicators which connect to the unit "N10-2", which I assume is a SAM unit, but not sure which one. The indicator wires at the back seem to go past the SAM unit in the boot, so am I right in thinking that the SAM unit under the bonnet controls the rear indicators?

It is in the boot on the left hand side. I ordered the part from ebay, and it actually came from Vilnius, Lithuania. Cost £31.49 with postage

Question to OP, as I have a suspect rear SAM fault in my 2003 E320 CDi Estate.

Did you need to have the car configured via Star after you fitted the new SAM?

My central locking and AM radio reception intermittent fail. I can live with the problem but if its straightforward and no need to get it on Star then I'll go shopping to Vilnius too!

just seen this post , I had a new battery fitted last week and I stupidly got two lads who were outside the shop ( GSF ) fitting a new battery to their car to fit mine as i have no tools and my mechanic wasn’t answering his phone ….i thought what could go wrong it’s a simple job !! So they fitted battery and I think in hindsight that they could have initially fitted it the wrong way round and then swapped to the correct way . I gave them a tenner said thanks and drove off …everything seemed ok ….but the rear drivers side indicator was showing that it was on the back up bulb and is fast flashing …also the radio is not working , as in not switching on at all ( didn’t discover that until yesterday ) .Took to my mechanic who swapped bulbs round from one side to another and it’s just not working on the right left was fine , so can’t be bulb .
would it be that I need a new SAM ?? It’s a 55 plate E class estate E220….
