W211 transmission issue or not ?

Hello all,

I bought the car ( w211 270 CDI 2003 ) only few days ago and i have very serious issues with the transmission i believe. Please check the video:

The issue is happening at 0:13. I'm putting my foot off the throttle and then hit it gently again. I need to press it even more in order to rev up and get the car back to normal behavior.

The car is with the 5G-Tronic automatic gear box, it doesn't matter if the car is warm or cold.

What do you guys think ? :(

Can you check if you have a Valeo radiator?
Looks to me like the torque convertor is faulty and could be down to glycol contamination from the radiator. Valeo radiators are known to leak fluid into the gearbox and ruin the clutch plates on the torque convertor.
Ideally you need the fault codes read to confirm what has happened, but yes, you have serious issues. Bad luck!

Yes, probably is with the Valeo radiator. The production date of the car is 02.02.2002. Also it has very low milage - 55 000 so there is a pretty good chance to be with the original radiator since it came out of the assembly line.

Will keep you posted on the progress of the issue.

Btw, the issue is happening only if i'm going uphill and the RPMs are below 2000. Above 2000 everything is good.

I'd say check the ATF level, low mileage would make me think its been sat a lot and the fluid has leaked.

I removed the covers below and there is no evidence of leaking from the gearbox. Tomorrow the car is going to a transmission specialist, lets see what is his opinion.

It might be leaking at the electric plug.

The sump would look dry but check the plug at the right hand side, as it does sound on what you've posted like its low on fluid.

Agree with the above. fluid level possibly low if its occuring only going up hill;)

I have bad news, the TC is for replacement, also the valve and something else will have to be replaced... basically they will rebuild the whole transmission.

But first lets wait the chemical analysis for contamination of the oil, fingers crossed.

That will be the valve body and speed sensor as well as the TC.
Hopefully the rad has not leaked and you don't need to replace that as well.

Sorry to hear it was what I suspected in my first reply.

No offence intended but wih that list and possibly, but hopefully not more is the repair worth it in comparison with the value of the car running?

@AMGeed, unfortunately the whole issue started from the radiator, the chemical probe is ready and the radiator of course is Valeo. :mad:

I hope at least the car to be fixed quickly, its holidays soon here.

@Mr Filipov, the cost will be ~1000 euro. I bough the car a week ago so for me the repair worth.

Hello All,

Yesterday i got the car from the mechanic / finally / and it's like brand new. The root cause of the issue in my video was indeed the TC but they replaced almost everything in the gearbox so they can give me warranty of 22 000 or 1 year. Thanks everybody who contributed in this thread.
